Inherently FR fibres keep their rating through repeated commercial laundering; topical treatments can wash out — and with them, your compliance. Care and hospitality bedding is laundered constantly, at thermal-disinfection temperatures. Ask how the rating survives the wash.
Ask any supplier — including us — for UKAS-accredited test certificates that reflect post-laundering performance. A rating tested only when new tells you about the product on day one, not in month twelve. We put both in writing with every quote.
Not by name. UK care settings operate under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, which requires a fire-risk assessment by the “Responsible Person.” Crib 5 (BS 7175, ignition source 5) bedding is the standard practical means of satisfying that assessment in most care settings — so it functions as a requirement in practice, driven by your assessment rather than a named statute. Some higher-hazard settings specify beyond Crib 5; your assessor decides.
They cover different items: BS 7175 is the ignitability standard for bedcovers and pillows; BS 7177 covers mattresses, toppers and bed bases; BS 7176 covers upholstered seating and headboards. All reference BS 5852 as the underlying ignition-source test method.
OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 is a chemical-safety certification — certified items are tested against a list of over 1,000 substances harmful to health. Bed linen falls in Product Class 2 (direct skin contact). It is not a fire-safety standard; the two are separate claims and should never be conflated. Certificates are valid for one year and renewed annually.
A written specification for every quoted item — fabric, construction, sizing, laundering guidance — plus applicable test certificates where certification is held. If we can’t document a claim, we won’t make it.
